Health and Safety

AKA promotes a safety-oriented culture at each of its locations around the world. Whether in an office, plant, or field location, the safety of all personnel, clients, and equipment is paramount. AKA complies with Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards and by implementing strict health and safety policies and procedures, ensures that its employees, clients, business partners, and anyone involved with an AKA facility are kept safe and healthy.

AKA is committed to providing a healthy and safe environment for its employees and contractors, endeavoring to minimize potential risks arising from its work activities. All AKA employees have access to a detailed Health and Safety Manual which covers safety rules, first-aid, and reporting procedures. The Manual also clarifies the duties of AKA supervisors in ensuring all internal policies are abided by, and that employees are well-versed in their rights and responsibilities as listed under the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act.

AKA firmly believes an effective safety program is based on the following philosophy:

  • AKA continuously strives to set an example for good corporate citizenship and demonstrate its commitment to the importance of protecting the health and safety of its employees, contractors, and the public.
  • Safety is an integral component of a quality business plan. A good work-safety culture boosts employee morale, reduces costs, and increases profitability.
  • The development, implementation, and maintenance of an effective safety program require the commitment of the entire AKA team and corporate affiliates.
  • Appropriate training is essential to the development of a quality work-safety culture.
  • The well-being of AKA personnel is of top priority – be it physical or mental. As such, AKA has implemented specialized “no questions asked” policies that compensate for employees needing to take personal days.

AKA’s Health and Safety Manual provides detailed instruction for all safety process and procedures. This includes detailed Health and Safety information for all AKA equipment, as well as a strict and detailed reporting procedure for documenting safety related incidents. AKA has developed a comprehensive system for reporting Health and Safety incidents from our work places – both domestic and abroad.

Employees are encouraged to express any and all safety concerns they may have. In order to continuously improve our policies and reduce future risk, all concerns, incidents, near-misses, and accidents are recorded and securely stored online for reference and further procedural development.
